MRFC Fly Fishing Schools
Although there are many fly fishing schools available today, we think few can offer the "classroom" that we do. The evening of the first day will be an introductory time when you will meet your companions and instructors. Basic tackle, knot tying and casting instruction will be covered. Beverages and snacks will be provided. Each of the three following days will be spent on a spectacular piece of trout water. Your instructors are guides that enjoy teaching people how to fly fish almost as much as catching fish themselves.
The scene for day 2 is a wonderful stretch of water on the upper Madison River. We’ll break the group into skill levels from beginner to intermediate. Emphasis will be placed on casting, wading, entomology, fly selection, trout behavior, fighting, landing and properly releasing fish.
The scene for day 3 will be a different stretch of water of the Madison River or possibly a local spring creek or even a lake, depending on conditions and the desires of the group. Dramatic dry fly, nymph and some streamer fishing will give you an opportunity to apply what you learned from day one and fish different water types. Wading, presentation techniques, and playing and releasing fish are covered.
We wind up our school with a great day of float fishing on the Madison River. Our McKenzie style drift boats accommodate two anglers comfortably. The Madison is a great river to learn the unique art of float fishing. During the day you will stop and wade fish some of your instructors' favorite areas so you can utilize all the skills you’ve learned.
The first three days of the school have a three angler per instructor ratio, while day four has two anglers per guide. A good breakfast starts each day while we gather at the shop. Excellent lunches will be prepared by your instructors and will be provided streamside.
Total cost of the school is $845 per fisherman and includes 36 flies (12 per day) transportation and all lunches. We can provide you with
fly reels and top quality rods from Sage, Winston, Scott, G. Loomis and Burkheimer at no extra charge. You will be responsible for providing your own wading gear, nylon, sunglasses, etc. Our fully stocked shop has a wide array of quality tackle, flies and accessories for sale.
A $200 deposit is required for each fisherman. You will receive an itinerary, a list of recommended equipment, a motel list, and a map with local campgrounds. Deposits are refundable up to two weeks prior to each school date.
Each school is limited to approximately 10 fishermen, so act fast as they fill up quickly. Give us a call at 800-227-7127 to place your reservation.
Although the cost of the schools does not include lodging, we will gladly assist you with reservations at a motel or direct you to a local campground. We will send you a Ennis Motel List with the itinerary information.
