In our honest opinion the Madison River fishing is always good. You just have to have a positive mental attitude (PMA) and the correct presentation of your flies. Check out our Madison River Fishing Reports.
Though Google Maps may lead you to the wrong building, we are very easy to find in downtown Ennis, so don't worry about relying on your phone or GPS. Here are some Montana style directions: If you are coming from Bozeman or Virginia City, go down the hill past the metal fly fisherman sculpture and we are one of the first stores on your right as you drive down Main Street. If you are coming from Yellowstone or Idaho, go all the way down Main Street and look for us on the left at the end. If you head up the hill past the gas station, you've gone too far.
We work as a booking agent for shuttles on the Madison River for Rocket Shuttle. However, we do not operate a shuttle service ourselves. To book a shuttle please call Tami @ (406) 581-4626 or (406) 794-9886, or come into the shop to fill out a shuttle form. Shuttles are $30 on the Upper Madison River.
Here is a short list of the gear you need to fish the Madison River. Of course in fly fishing there are many other gadgets, but this should do just fine on any given day. On our guided trips you will be provided with rods, leaders, flies, and waders if you so wish.
Rods: 5 and 6 weight are the most common, but some circumstances are better suited to a 4wt or a 7wt.
Leaders: assortment from 7.5 ft. to 9 ft. and from 0x to 4x. You will rarely need 5x.
Waders and wading boots, or wading sandals. Teva and Chacos are okay, but don't provide great traction in rivers like the Madison River. Felt soles are still legal in Montana and encouraged for wading the upper Madison. Just be sure to clean and inspect prior to use.
Plenty of warm clothes for layering including hat and gloves

We carry a wide variety of all the items listed here at our online store or swing into the shop before your trip!
Clients will leave their vehicle at the shop where they will then ride in their guide’s vehicle to the river. The guide’s vehicle then gets shuttled to your take-out. The guide will bring the clients back to the shop or your hotel at the end of the day.
While we do not provide alcoholic beverages, if you wish to have alcohol on the boat you are welcome to bring your own. Your guide can also take you to a local store for beer or wine the morning of your trip if you wish.
Weather can change quickly around here, so we suggest dressing in layers. Bringing a warm layer such as a fleece or puffy and a rain jacket and pants will help you be prepared for anything.
Waders are not necessary on most trips but do protect you from the elements and can give you more flexibility for wade fishing as well as entering and exiting the boat. We have rental waders available.
During summer conditions, Chaco or Teva type sandals are popular water shoes. Otherwise hiking or tennis shoes are good.
Other important items clients should bring include: polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, rain jacket and a hat.
