Sitka Fish First Impressions

Hi Everyone!

I just tried on the new Sitka Cross Current Zip GTX Stockingfoot Wader with the Sitka CrossCurrent Wading Boots. I put together a quick list of pros and cons on my first impressions with the new wader and boots. The biggest takeaways I have highlighted in bold.

Sitka Zip CrossCurrent Zip GTX Stockingfoot Wader

Pros:

  • Strong zipper that zips down lower than Simms and Patagonia (easier to take a leak)
  • The gravel guards are stretchy enough to get over your boots with ease
  • Has 2 pockets on the inside of the waders (one on each side)
  • 4 pockets on the outside with one being magnetic and the other 3 zippers
  • Magnetic pocket is a cool touch (pocket over your heart)
  • Similar hook and ladder for the shoulder straps as Patagonia waders

Cons:

  • No knee pads
  • Magnetic pocket is definitely not waterproof
  • The booties are freaking small (I'm a 10.5 and the 9-11 bootie was skin tight in ankle socks)
  • Waders are paper thin (Not sure about warmth)

Sitka Boot CrossCurrent Wading Boot

Pros :

  • The heel of the boot is very low. The low heel makes it very easy to get off (great for old people)
  • Super comfy boot overall
  • When laced all the way up it has great ankle support
  • True to size fit for the boots (not narrow or bulky)

Cons:

  • Boot is on the heavier side (similar weight to a Freestone or G3, but definitely heavier then a flyweight)
