Zach's Idylwilde Chubby in Pteronarcys is a #6 high-floating Chubby-style attractor dry fly from Montana Fly Co., tailor-made for the salmonfly hatch. The Pteronarcys colorway pairs a black or brown foam body with an orange underbody — the dark back and salmon-orange belly of the natural Pteronarcys californica, the largest stonefly in the West. The Chubby's extreme buoyancy floats it like a cork through riffles, bankside buckets, and fast seams, even trailing a heavy dropper. Fish it dead-drifted tight to the banks during the salmonfly hatch, on its own or as the dry in a dry-dropper rig.
