*Monday Morning Update*
The Madison is still blown out and colored brown. Both the town takeout and Valley Garden are currently closed.
It’s an incredibly special day for not only the Madison River Fishing Company, but all residents of the Madison Valley. Please help us in wishing MRFC’s very own, Nicko Opinsky, a very Happy Birthday!
We’ve received a boatload of phone calls regarding the status of the river and our well-being. Thank you to each of you who has reached out to us with concern. This weekend is looking windy with a high chance of precipitation. Expect to see temperatures in the 70’s for the majority of next week. Hebgen Inflow is currently at 2560 CFS with 3190 CFS flowing out of the Dam. Flows at Cameron are running at 5480 CFS, 890 CFS over the historical max in 2011. Earthquake Lake still has plenty of color while between the lakes is turning green. The Westfork is pumping in the only clear water that I could see as of yesterday. Your best bet is to head up high if you’re itching to get out on the water over the course of this next week. Do not float between Lyons bridge and Palisades FAS. Both the Wolf Creek and Sun West Bridge are impassable due to the highwater.
Fish are currently holding near the bank. Your best bet is to dredge a stonefly nymph or worm within 5 feet of where you are standing in the softer water. Don’t be afraid to throw a streamer if the nymph game isn’t working. We’re still in runoff so be as creative as you can!
Looking for some fly tying material to create these patterns? Check out our fly tying collection online or stop by the shop! As temperatures warm up, continue to practice your best fish handling techniques. Avoid fish pictures for the gram whenever possible so that we can continue to have healthy fish populations for years to come.
