The Thundergrass Hopper in black and tan is a two-tone grasshopper dry fly. The contrasting colors aid visibility while the hopper profile matches a prime late-summer food source.
Fish it on a dead drift along grassy banks, with an occasional twitch to suggest a kicking hopper.
Don't overlook the middle of the river on breezy days — windblown terrestrials drift far from shore, and trout cruise the lanes looking for them.
