In 1965 Dr. Bob Smith, orthodontist and original ski bum, developed the first sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam. He then began to hand build goggles in his garage and sell them out of his van on weekend ski trip in Utah and Colorado.
With a refined design and manufacturing plan, Smith took his innovation and started producing his Smith Original ski google in 1969 in Rifle, Colorado with a contract manufacturer.
Now over 50 years later, Smith Optics has evolved from a garage-venture into a leading sunglass manufacturer.
